Buttermilk Falls

>> Sunday, October 20, 2013

My husband and I decided to take our 10th wedding anniversary off work and spend the day enjoying the fall weather.  It was a great decision!  We went to Ithaca to visit our favorite jeweler (the one who made our wedding rings) and then go for a walk at Buttermilk Falls.  I don't think the photos need much explanation.  Hope you enjoy our little stroll!

I adore this giant swirl, and want to thank whomever waded in the stream to build it.  Delightful whimsy.

Can anyone identify this enormous shelf fungus?  Seth and I are affectionately referring to it as the "circus peanut" fungus, since that's the exact color it was.  It was striking from quite a distance away.  I've never seen its equal.

Last few shots

These are the last few shots I took in Maine, that I thought I'd share.  Miscellany.

Moisture droplets are awesome.  That is all.

We found a lovely old cemetery in one of the tiny fishing villages.  The carvings on the stones seemed especially intricate to me, and absolutely lovely.  I've been in a lot of cemeteries that date from the same time period (mid to late 1800s) and saw some designs that were new to me.  I wonder if the village had a particularly artistic stone carver?

These are from an old warehouse that was built out over the water on pilings.  LOVE the old stuff in the windows.

From our favorite old Quoddy Head State Park.

We found this old canoe adrift.  It has become a bit of beach debris now.  Picturesque beach debris.  I think technically this qualifies as flotsam.

I love cairns.  Love them, love them, love them.  It's like they have mystical properties.  Here are my favorite cairns from our trip.
